About Abstract Art

Abstract art allows us to explore feeling, memory, and emotion beyond the boundaries of realism. My work combines layered texture, collage, and mark-making to create abstract compositions that reflect the fragments and atmospheres of daily life. Each piece is an invitation to pause, reflect, and find personal meaning in the layers.

Exploring Atmosphere, Emotion,
and Memory Through Abstraction

Abstract art invites us to experience the world beyond literal representation. It encourages reflection, evokes emotion, and creates space for personal interpretation. As a contemporary Scottish abstract artist, I use a layered, mixed media approach to explore the textures of memory, the atmospheres of places, and the quiet echoes of everyday life.

“My aim is to create abstract art that feels both contemporary and timeless — works that speak to the viewer in subtle, often unexpected ways.”

Each piece begins with a fragment — a colour, a sound, a feeling — and builds through layers of paint, paper, and mark-making. The process is intuitive and immersive, where materials are added, removed, and reworked until a delicate balance emerges. These works aim to capture not what is seen, but what is felt.

A Contemporary Approach to Abstract Art

While my practice is rooted in mixed media techniques, the foundation of my work is abstract expression. My paintings explore texture, contrast, and gesture, allowing surfaces to reveal history, tension, and harmony. I work primarily on paper and panel, often combining acrylic paint with collage, graphite, and ink to create richly layered surfaces. My aim is to create abstract art that feels both contemporary and timeless — works that speak to the viewer in subtle, often unexpected ways.
